\u2013 see this guide<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Do I need to use online book-keeping software (like Xero or Quickbooks) to create an invoice?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The quick answer is NO<\/strong> &#8211; you can setup an invoice in any format you like (eg make a document in Word, or on Google Drive, or any other way of prepping a document that you prefer). This is very handy when it comes to doing your annual tax return, and keeping an eye on how much  income you have received during the tax year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Services like Xero and Quickbooks charge a monthly fee, but there are also <strong>FREE OPTIONS AVAILABLE<\/strong> (who don&#8217;t have a massive advertising budget to tell you about their services!)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;d recommend checking-out <a href=\"https:\/\/www.quickfile.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Quickfile<\/a> &#8211; for the size of business you\u2019ll be running, a&nbsp;free account&nbsp;with Quickfile (or similar free service) will be fine, and does pretty much all the same things!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/www.quickfile.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">FREE INVOICING SOFTWARE \u2013 Quickfile<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"652\" height=\"367\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/BmWFEBQq4JA?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation\"><\/iframe><\/span>\n<\/div><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Quick video guide to creating an invoice using Quickfile  <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Do I need a contract?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Often as a self-employed artist or artworker, you might be <strong>agreeing details of one-off work over email <\/strong>(which allows you to look back at what fees you have agreed and other details discussed). This is often fine for smaller gigs, or one-off workshops and presentations etc. and if both sides are happy to go ahead like this, there&#8217;s nothing to stop you. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Make sure you <strong>clearly agree<\/strong> things like:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>the fee (and any other expenses)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>what work will be carried out<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the date(s) &amp; times of the work (including any deadlines)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>any expectations around information &amp; images to be supplied<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the process for invoicing &amp; payment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>For <strong>more involved projects or commissions<\/strong>, I would <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">strongly recommend<\/span> that you agree a more formal contract with the individual or organisation you are working with.
